Our soft-sensors integrate discreetly into clothing giving users accurate information about their heart rate, breathing, muscle activation, movement patterns & energy expenditure.

About

Overview Smartlife is a Manchester-based wearable technology company specialising in the development of textile soft-sensors, electronics and software that are capable of detecting and processing biophysical signals from the body. The range of capabilities includes electrocardiogram (ECG), electromyogram (EMG), impedance pneumography (IP), accelerometry and more.  Advanced algorithms in Smartlife’s small and lightweight electronic ‘brain’ turn this raw data into insightful information about heart rate, breathing pattern, muscle activation, movement patterns and energy expenditure.  The information is communicated to the user in real time via Bluetooth to a mobile app. By integrating the sensors into clothing (e.g. compression t-shirts and sports bras) Smartlife has created a smart garment solution that is more accurate than wrist-worn technology and more comfortable and capable than the traditional chest strap solutions on the market today. Our technology is protected by 5 patent families with patents registered in 23 global territories and a number of patents pending.  Our data is independently validated by leading academic institutions in the UK. How Smartlife Works The body creates an electrical impulse e.g. heart beat, muscle contractions Patented, integrated, textile sensors in the garment detect electrical impulses Advanced algorithms in the Brain process raw data into meaningful output e.g. heart rate, breathing rate, calories burned Bluetooth receiving device displays data in real time & transmits it to the cloud for analysis on any web-enabled device Biophysical Capabilities Electrocardiogram (ECG): heart rate, heart rate variability, respiration and calorie burn Surface electromyogram (sEMG): muscle utilisation, power Impedance pneumography: respiration Impedance plethysmography: respiration, pressure Accelerometry: steps, speed, impact, calorie burn Electroencephalogram (EEG): brain activity Electrooculogram (EOG): eye movement Galvanic skin response (GSR): sweat analysis Temperature* *additional sensor components required USPs Protected by 5 patent families with patents registered in 23 global territories Easy integration into any close fitting clothing which is in contact with the skin 100% textile sensors and soft fabric pocket (rather than press studs) feel comfortable against the skin Discreet, integrating invisibly into a normal garment More accurate than optical-based technology and independently validated by academic institutions Highly versatile, performing well under all levels of physical exertion from sedentary to high impact Manufactured on standard machines at a relatively low cost given capability of product
