Our innovation enables fully additive manufacturing of a smart plastic part, by combining 3D printing of the housing with printing of electronics. This eliminates the need for PCB.

About

3D printed structural electronics combines 3D printing of a part/housing, typically made of a plastic material, with printing of electronics. Our innovation enables additive printing of circuit structures including multi-layered structures in tandem with 3D printing, so that both the housing as well as the electronics are generated simultaneously. This is a fully additive manufacturing approach that results in integrated smart objects that find their application in consumer electronics, human-machine interfaces, medical devices, etc. By eliminating the need for a separate PCB and the associated chemical etching/soldering processes, our innovation enables sustainable manufacturing. This approach also opens up new design and form factor possibilities.

Key Benefits

The key benefits are: - Reduced carbon footprint - Full integration of electronics within the part - Light weighting - Space saving - Possibility to realize new form factors and designs

Applications

The applications are only limited by imagination. This innovation can be applied, among others, in: - consumer electronics - medical devices - human-machine interfaces - mass-customization in manufacturing
