At EnCap Biotech, we are developing Green Packaging Technology (GPak) that will help industries to adopt a green and natural alternative to plastics, while providing value proposition such as, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties to the end-product (packaging). The innovative GPak can reduce/replace a significant portion of plastics from packaging and enhance the functionality of the existing paper-based packaging. Our GPak will lead to the development of new line of smart and sustainable packaging materials having the key benefits of the existing plastic-based packaging while incrementally using less plastic. In short-term, we see GPC as a minimum viable product that will be used as an additive (form the internal and/or external layer) in the manufacture of both plastic and paper-based packaging materials. Our technology has the potential to convert non-recyclable (multiple layers of different plastics) packaging materials into an eco-friendly recyclable version. In addition to having biodegradable components, the packaging materials will be functional and actively reduce food waste by delaying or preventing pathogenic microbial contamination and/or oxidative imbalance in food products. This has the added benefits of simultaneously reducing food and packaging waste. We will be working with the plastic and paper packaging industries to develop innovative sustainable packaging solutions customized to the packaging needs of the clients.
