A vision-based automated multiple target detection and tracking system with special application to unmanned air vehicle (UAV) platforms.

About

This software consists of a novel multiple-target tracking system with special application to video taken from either a stationary or a moving platform, expecially from unmanned air vehicals either in flight (moving) or in perch-and-star (staitonary) tracking scenarios. It is also possible to use the software to track subjects in security-camera footage and the like. One novel aspect of the invention is that many targets may co-exist in the video sequence, and each target will be tracked. If targets are moving when they are first seen in the video sequence, and then stop moving, the target tracker will maintain a track on the target. The system is entirely autonomous. It automatically initializes, prunes, and deletes tracks at the appropriate times. The software is also computationally efficient and is able to run in real time. The technology has broad security an dsurveillance applications in the civilian and defense markets. The system can easily be applied to pan-tilt-zoom security cameras using known geometrical transformations between frames to compensate for camera motion. The system is especially useful in the surveillance and monitoring of public areas because of its ability to indefinitely track and detect staitonary objects.
