About

Summary: The Soundfly is a handheld controller that senses, analyzes, and maps users’ gestures to generate and control digital music. The controller utilizes research in music perception, composition, and performance as well as research in gesture analysis and signal conditioning to allow novices and proficient musicians to expressively generate and control music. The invention addresses an important deficiency in electronic music performance today, namely, the need to provide physical expression and visibility that can only be found in acoustic music performance. The controller and a set of applications that is developed for it can also provide novices with hands-on gestrual access to the creation, manipulation, and personalization of music in educational, music therapy, and rehabilitation settings.
