Thermoplastic Composite Pipe has a solid wall construction constituted from a single polymer material reinforced with embedded (melt-fused) fibre reinforcements. The solid wall consists of an inner liner, thermoplastic composite fiber reinforcement layers and an outer coating. All layers are of the same thermoplastic polymer (PE, PA12 or PVDF) and are melt fused together during the production process to form a solid, fully bonded laminate without additional bonding layers and without annulus, but with the strongest interface possible between the layers. The fibers are glass or carbon fiber. The patented manufacturing technology is in principle an ‘endless’ process, allowing the manufacturing of long, spoolable pipe of which the length is limited only by the length that can be stored on the factories’ carrousels. The maximum pipe diameter is limited only by the size of the winding and melt fusion equipment. Current maximum (internal) diameter is 7.5 inch ID and single lengths of upto to 5 to 10km (longer lengths for smaller ID). Single lengths are connected together with end-fittings. Pressure ratings available from 50 to 700 bar. Expanding diameter to 12 inch ID is possible without new technology development requirements. Above 12 inch new end-fitting technology will need to be developed. The manufacturing technology is scalable, low capex and allows for in-country manufacturing set-up.
