When stores reduce the price of groceries due to short shelf life, they automatically appear in the app, so that consumers can buy discounted products and "save food."
Throw No More has developed a Food Waste App (iOS and Androide) that makes it easier for retailers to reduce food waste, and for consumers to find cheaper products and at the same time save both money and the environment. When retailers reduce the price of soon expiring groceries, they automatically appear in the app, so that consumers can buy these products at a reduced price instead of the food being wasted.
Today we have 518 grocery stores from SPAR and Joker in the Throw No More app. The Throw No More Software are connected to systems in the stores, so that information about new down priced products and sells are automatically updated in the app and back office system. We will soon launch a new version of the app, where costumers can add products to a shopping list and get an overview of how much CO2 they save on purchasing the products compared to them being thrown away.
Our goal is to contribute to less food waste in all of the food chain, and we are also developing soulutions for wholesalers.
For consumers: With the Throw No More app, consumers will get an overview of what products the grocery stores in your local area have at a reduced price, either because they are approaching the expiration date or because they for other reasons can not be sold at full price. In the app costumers can select favourite stores and products and get notifications when there are new down priced products available. This makes it possible to plan the purchase of groceries at a good price and contribute to less food waste. Consumers can make a good deal – for themselves, for the store, and for the environment. 63,000 tonnes of food are thrown away every year only in Norwegian grocery stores. This is problematic because it means that we use unnecessary amounts of resources and contribute to unnecessary environmental impact on the planet, by producing and distributing food that is not eaten. We want to make it easier for costumers to help reduce food waste.
For retailers: With Throw No More, you can give your customers an overview of what your store has at a reduced price, either because they are approaching the sell-by date or because they for other reasons can not be sold at full price. This makes it possible for customers to plan the purchase of groceries at a good price, and contribute to less food waste. We want to contribute to preventing food waste early in the value chain. That is why we use the data on discounted and sold or wasted food, to give retailers necessary insights and forecasts. With this tool, you can more easily reduce wastage and increase profitability! We are now in the process of developing TNM statistics, a simple tool for both the chains and the stores. Together we will make sure to say goodbye to food waste in the grocery industry.
Throw No More is a technology company that thinks ahead. We envision a green world, where the flow of goods in the grocery industry works so well that food waste (and potentially waste of other products) is minimal. We use machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) to take the best possible advantage of the insight we gain into groceries. We look forward to seeing the increased use of technology in the grocery industry. Throw No More is prepared for new technology such as 2D coding and dynamic pricing, so that we can automate the process of reducing food waste.
The Throw No More app can be used in any retailer or store that wishes to sell soon expiring products/products with some kind of defect at reduced price instead of throwing them away. Our system runs in large food retailers in Norway, and we are planning to expand to UK, Latvia and Canada. We have the knowledge, experience and resources to make necessery adaptions to the system to implement it in other food chains around the world.
