This proprietary technology is a class of biomaterials which can be used across various tissue replacement applications due to biocompatibility, ability to safely degrade in the body, and drug eluting properties. The inventors developed a novel cross-linking procedure utilizing dicarboxylic acid to achieve structural, physicochemical, and biological properties required for soft tissue applications. The process employs melt condensation to synthesize a polymer with different stoichiometric ratios of xylitol and dodecanedioic acid poly (xylitol-dodecanedioic Acid, PXDDA). The polymer has been tested for tensile strength which exhibited a nonlinear strength profile indicative of a material with variable elasticity. In addition, physical stretching shows the ability to elongate the material to twice its initial size without critical failure.
