Summary   Stanford researchers have developed advanced optical techniques using multispectral and fluorescent imaging to improve visualization of ablation lesions and other features related to the health of heart wall tissue. This new method can more clearly monitor ablation lesions during catheter-based ablation to treat atrial fibrillation. Current methods either cannot clearly distinguish ablation lesions in all regions of the heart wall, or they provide a point-wise measurement of the tissue properties rather than a 2D image or video. The image or video will provide more data for the physician to interpret the health of the heart wall tissue.
