Provide pulsed, minimal energy to the evaporator coil to control the penetration depth of heat to melt the interfacial layer of ice rather than flooding the evaporator with heat.

About

Current defrost in refrigeration and freezers is energy intensive. It was never optimized to minimize energy to prevent ice from forming. It uses a heater coil to flood surfaces with heat. The Betterfrost solution is based on decades of research at the Dartmouth Ice lab, where they studied how ice forms, adheres to surfaces, and melts. Our patented system provides only the minimal amount of heat necessary to melt the interfacial layer of ice, about tenths of a mm. Our system provides pulsed electricity to the metal coil of the evaporator and uses the outer surface to generate the heat. No heater coil required. Our system uses 10X less energy during defrost and reduces total energy consumption by 15-20%. We also eliminate freezer burn in freezers, providing fresher and safer food and pharmaceutical goods.

Key Benefits

Reduce defrost energy usage by 10X. Reduce total energy consumption for refrigeration by 15-20%. Eliminate freezer burn.

Applications

Refrigeration, Freezers, electrical vehicles (defrost and defog), aerospace wing deicing, camera/sensor cleaning for autonomous vehicles
