About

About A video retrieval system has been developed which automatically captures daily news broadcasts and segments the bulletins into news stories according to the user’s interests. NewsBoy aims to adapt to the user’s multiple aspects of interest by capturing implicit interactions with its graphical interface, extracting terms from visited video documents and storing them in user profiles. The terms are weighted based on the type of implicit feedback and multiple interests are identified by clustering the content of the profile. The interface provides various features which are employed as a feedback source.   Key Benefits Users have access to the latest news broadcasts.  The interface is intuitive and easy to use.  User interactions with the interface are used to recommend new stories that match their interests.   Applications The initial application area chosen is news retrieval for the consumer market, however, the core event detection and classification technology would also be suitable for use in applications where video asset management is a key requirement, such as:- Film and video post-production.  Moving image archival.  Editing and managing news and sports broadcast material in TV production applications.  Content generation for news and sports event summarisation services accessed via the Internet or mobile communications technology.   IP Status A technology demonstrator has been implemented in software and is available as an Easy Access licence deal to interested companies and individuals.
