About

We're aiming to help every parent, child, and consumer use sunscreen properly on every day they spend outside and on vacation. Beach vacations and tropical destinations are the most common form of tourism. Tropical destination tourists generally come from cooler or seasonal climates, and become immediately exposed to the harsh sun at their destination. It’s imperative that you avoid getting a sunburn during your vacation so you can experience it to it’s fullest. Even more important that your vacation isn’t remembered by the horrific sunburn that you received, causing you to never want to do a tropical vacation again. Sunscreen is the most common tool used to protect skin when someone is outside, but sunscreen is invisible when it's working, and it's invisible when its *not* working. When travelling, people can end up in countries with a much harsher sun and UV index than they are used to, and do not know how to protect themselves properly. The average consumer only applies 25% of the recommended amount of sunscreen, and less than 50% reapply their sunscreen if they are outside all day. To help you use your sunscreen properly, Suncayr has developed SPOT: a smart indicator of ultraviolet radiation (UV). SPOT will tell sunscreen users how effective their sunscreen is all day long using colour changing designs that are easy to understand, fast, and reversible (so one sticker can last all day long). Sunscreen users can now receive active feedback on their sunscreen coverage, so they can be sure when they have applied enough sunscreen (when the patch is clear, showing they are protected) and when their sunscreen is no longer protecting them (when the patch changes to purple). A user would put stick the SPOT on, and then they apply sunscreen over-top (as well as all over their body). SPOT has both fun designs and a special UV-responsive area that changes colour based on UV exposure. When the area is clear, SPOT is showing that the user’s skin is protected from UV by the sunscreen they used. When the area changes to purple, that means sunscreen has worn off and the user’s skin is now exposed to UV light. SPOT mimics skin’s interaction with sunscreen, so SPOT can tell how sunscreen is wearing off while the user does any activity outside. This is especially important for sunscreen, because sunscreen comes off at vastly different rates whether the user is swimming, sweating, or relaxing. The best example of how this technology customizes the user experience is to imagine that two people at a beach, but only one person decides to go swim. The swimmer’s sunscreen will be wearing off faster (from the water), and their SPOT will be changing colour faster. We plan to partner SPOT with major industries brands. We can print any image or brand on SPOT, so we have the opportunity to white-label to partners in different locations and industries. By partnering with us, a major brand like Virgin can increase their customer satisfaction using a product like ours to show off the innovative solutions they align with to show empathy. We want you to get a sticker (or more!) with your boarding pass so you can stay safe while on vacation.
