Founded in 2012, e-Zinc is a corporation based in Toronto, Canada that has developed a breakthrough electrochemical technology for storing energy in zinc metal. This affordable, flexible, and long-duration energy storage solution will provide the platform for the world’s energy markets to be fully powered by renewable energy, enabling a zero-carbon energy future. e-Zinc believes that its technology will be an ideal solution for energy storage in the 12-100+ our duration range from commercial, residential, remote grid and utility scale applications. Since being founded in 2012, e-Zinc has raised more than $40M in grant and private funding to develop its technology. e-Zinc is currently in the process of completing field projects in Ontario, Texas, and California, designing its Generation 1 product, scaling manufacturing capabilities, and building its sales pipeline in order to begin rapidly commercializing in 2023 onwards.

Intermittency: A key challenge facing the adoption of renewable energy the intermittency issue; having access to power when energy generation through renewable energy sources is low. For times when there is little wind or sun, we typically have relied on non-renewable energy sources to provide us with energy. With e-Zinc's cost-effective long-duration energy storage technology, excess energy produced during high-generation periods from renewable energy can be stored in the battery for usage when generation is low. Furthermore, because e-Zinc's cells are designed to be easily scalable, it can easily provide enough backup energy to meet one's energy needs during long-term intermittency periods. Resilience and Backup: Diesel generators are currently the most common sources of backup power for a range of different customers. These generators are very expensive and have a high level of GHG emissions. With e-Zinc's battery system, one could effectively replace their generator with our cells. These cells can be stored with enough energy to provide backup energy in place of a generator. The savings from reduced grid dependency and demand charges can make an investment in e-Zinc's system a net-positive from an ROI standpoint, all while significantly reducing carbon footprint.
