About

Summary Stanford researchers have developed a technique for placing advertisements or other content virtually onto physical surfaces in an existing video. ZunaVision allows a user to manually select a surface one time in one frame of a video and the software automatically does the rest. Throughout the length of a video, ZunaVision tracks the surface and changes the colors and tones of the ad to appropriately match the surroundings. The software can also handle occlusions blocking the surface in the foreground. ZunaVision provides a photo-realistic appearance and creates a less intrusive advertisement that can have greater impact. Applications Online video advertising (in existing or user-submitted videos) Adding local, customized, or post-game advertisements to sports broadcasts Adding advertisements into television re-runs Covering or changing advertisements in old content Video editing, where modifying or overlaying surfaces can be very useful Advantages Allows advertisements within video to be easily added, customized or changed Greatly increases the advertising possibilities for use with online video Allows less intrusive advertisements to be added into the scenery of an existing video Superior in many situations to placing advertisements over videos while they're playing No need for pre- or post-production or video-editing Smoothly includes content into scenery of video Provide seamless advertising in high volume video situations, such as online videos Allows adding, customizing, or changing advertisements in sports broadcasts and re-broadcast, television shows, re-run shows and movies on TV
