Summary

Background

At Beiersdorf AG, the head quarter being located in Hamburg, Germany, we have been caring about skin since 1882. Throughout our history we have built trust by staying close to our consumers and developing innovative skin care brands that are tailored to their needs. We work as one global team, with one focus: making people feel good in their skin. Everywhere. Every day. As we head into the future, we want to become the number one skin care company in the world.

Challenge

For the development of skin care products Beiersdorf uses objective and reliable methods to investigate consumer’s skin care status. Beiersdorf are looking for smartphone technologies as a tool for skin diagnosis. The smartphone now offers a tremendous opportunity to measure the consumer’s skin, before and during skin care treatments, worldwide. This includes a reliable assessment of the skin.

Beiersdorf are looking for smartphone technologies as a tool for skin diagnosis. This could be measurement of the skin surface, e. g. overall colour, wrinkles, pores, micro relief or it could be an exploration of deeper skin properties, e. g. melanin content, micro vascularization, cell classification, fibre properties or whatever you propose might be helpful to learn about the skin. Furthermore, we would like to learn about the consumer’s behaviour during skin care procedures as well as see scientific proof of improved skin after skin care application.

What's in it for you?

This is a global challenge and Beiersdorf is already cooperating with all kinds of scientific based partners ranging from individuals, freelancers, innovators, start-ups to other industrial partners or universities. This is an opportunity to start a new successful collaboration for individuals, becoming part of the wide Beiersdorf research network, while for organisations, forming a co-operation to develop the idea to be applied within Beiersdorf or to bring it to the market.
