Biomarker and drug target identification and development

Expertise

The biomarker and drug target identification research themes of my research centre and laboratory look to identify molecules, whether they be metabolites, genetic variants, proteins or RNA, and evaluate their usage as indicators of disease state or pathogenic processes and encompasses several disease/conditions including neurological, psychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases. In particular, I currently have two clinical trials looking to identify biomarkers in Multiple Sclerosis and its' subtypes, as we as trial investigating Chronic Pain. Biomarkers can also provide clues to the identification of novel drug targets, as well as pharmacological responses to a therapeutic intervention and this is also a theme within my research programme. In 2016 I developed and setup the Centre for Biomarker Research (CeBioR) at the University of Huddersfield, in which I am the director. I am also a Reader/Assoc Prof in Precision Medicine in the Department of Pharmacy.
