Over many years and projects in the field of materials degradation and failure in the oil/ gas/ petrochemical industry, developed a niche expertise in the time-dependent degradation and failure of steels and other metallic alloys. Mechanisms studied include hydrogen-based degradation and environmentally assisted cracking and failure. With the growth of the green hydrogen economy, as well as changes planned to the oil/ gas and petrochemical industry to improve its environmental impact, this expertise is very valuable in maximizing plant and process life. I have often been called to serve as an expert witness in this regard.
