Bio conversion of waste into a peat & chemical free fertilizer using worms

We are a producer of worm castings under the brand name Wormganix. Our wormery is unique that we never sell the worms, breeding and rearing them with the sole intention of creating peat and chemical free fertilizers and growing media for retail and commercial horticulture

Our method using composted bark has been successfully trialled by a leading commercial grower and we are collaborating with the RHS peat free transition project. We are currently trialling waste streams supplied by Veolia -The ultimate goal to convert raw waste streams into a fertiliser for both domestic and commercial horticulture

We need to both develop and scale up our trials of using alternative bedding materials for our wormery, with the successful variants to be lab tested and put on small scale trials to see if we can replicate or improve the fertility of our existing product which is in demand in retail and commercial horticulture.

We can valorise problematic waste streams without further energy costs converting them into peat free fertiliser which is in high demand due to the forthcoming ban on peat .Our initial tentative trials of Anaerobic digestate and paper pulp have been successful and we will be working with Veolia experimenting with coffee grounds ( sourced from their contracts with the UK's largest Coffee Chains) and field waste co-ordinated by the RHS

Clearly all this R&D is at a cost -but the product is in demand now and we want to scale up our operation to accommodate all this activity-the commercial ban on peat begins in 2026 and the industry is looking at novel alternatives right now ,If we can supply an alternative without peat and chemicals by using a waste that would have had to be repurposed at a cost -it gets interesting
