Why we developed improVITA? About 40% of the fruit produced in the world is wasted, from which more than 1/3 is wasted by the consumers. One of the reasons for this waste is oxidation, that starts occurring as soon as you cut a piece of fruit. When we focus on fruits that are sold packed and ready for consumption, companies have developed strategies to extend their shelf-life, but the current solutions only allow a shelf-life of 5 to 6 days, which ends up narrowing potential clients worldwide due to transport limitations. In this context, we developed ImproVITA as a disruptive solution to increase the shelf life of fresh cut fruits and vegetables, and natural juices, since it provides the unique advantage of significantly extending the life span of antioxidants, without using artificial preservatives, and contributing to the reduction of generated waste. Conventional food preservatives are based only in the antioxidant ascorbic acid, but ImproVITA is an eutectic mixture with dissolved ascorbic acid, which can extend the life time of this preservative up to 5 times. ImproVITA is easy-to-use, versatile, food grade, vegan, natural and allergen-free, and has clear competitive advantages when comparing to other solutions, such as synthetic chemical preservatives, natural stabilizers or techniques to control physico-chemical properties (e.g. modified atmosphere packaging).
