Challenge

Our client, a Global technology provider, is currently looking for a small (deck of cards sized) device which will be appended to a metallic object being carried by a human being in outdoor and indoor environments.
The device will be capable of reporting angular orientation of object by 1 mrd (milliradian) or better.  The device must be able to communicate orientation data wirelessly to a nearby (local) receiver using industry standard protocols.

Solution must adhere to the below requirements:

  • 3DOF (roll, pitch, yaw) or 6DOF (3DOF plus position x,y,z) device orientation at target 1mrd accuracy or better in live training environment
  • Accurate in the presence of metal, noise, and vibrations > 6g
  • Small (size of deck of cards)
  • Wireless connectivity (BLE, WiFi, UWB or other industry standard). Needs to communicate with a smart phone
  • Target update rate minimum every 100ms
  • At least 14 days of usage without recalibration
  • Environmentally sealed, temperature range -40C to 65C
  • Cost < $1,000 at production
