Background
The Australian Meat Processor Corporation (AMPC) is the research, development and adoption (R&D&A) body for Australian red meat processors. AMPC are funded through mandatory statutory levies provided by our industry, Co-funding opportunities and can leverage Commonwealth matched funding.
Within AMPC's strategic plan there are five key research programs:
- Advanced Manufacturing
- Sustainability
- People and Culture
- Technical Market Access and Markets
- Product and Process Integrity
AMPC contracts providers and engages with processors to undertake R&D in these areas. AMPC are looking for innovative solutions to the problems and challenges faced by red meat processors.
Challenge
Problem
High-risk, high-speed industrial environments—such as those in processing and manufacturing—can present serious safety challenges. When standard procedures are not followed or unsafe actions occur, the consequences may include injuries, equipment damage, unplanned downtime, and increased operational costs.
Current safety oversight methods rely heavily on human supervision, which often delays the identification and correction of unsafe behaviours. Without real-time insight, risks can go unnoticed until after an incident has occurred.
Solution
We are seeking smart scanning systems capable of detecting incorrect or unsafe task execution in real time. These systems may use AI, computer vision, sensors, or wearable technology to continuously monitor task performance and identify safety breaches or near misses.
This challenge is seeking innovative solutions that use AI, computer vision, and smart sensing technologies to:
- Detect risky behaviours or deviations from safe operating procedures in real time,
- Alert managers or operators when intervention is needed, and ideally,
- Automatically stop equipment or processes to prevent harm.
Solutions must be robust enough to function in real-world processing conditions, including environments with variable lighting, condensation, PPE visibility, and fast-paced movement.
What's in it for you?
By participating in this challenge, innovators will have the opportunity to:
- Collaborate with AMPC and leading Australian red meat processors
- Access funding support for proof-of-concept and pilot deployment
- Gain real-world testing opportunities in processing environments
- The chance to contribute meaningfully to the future of workplace safety innovation
- Contribute to a meaningful industry, one that produces high quality, sustainable product that feeds the world.
