Summary

Background

Brickworks is Australia's largest brickmaker and concrete products manufacturer with operations both in Australia and United States. They are continuously looking for innovations to improve both processes and plant efficiencies while improving the environmental sustainability of their products and reducing their carbon footprint.

Challenge

Brickworks are seeking new calcination process technologies for the calcination of materials ranging from clays to hard rock materials.

Brickworks is focused on improving their environmental sustainability and reducing their carbon footprint. Cement, the key ingredient used in concrete, is responsible for 8% of the world’s CO2 emissions. As such, it is highly desirable to Brickworks and our stakeholders to reduce cement use and therefore reduce the total embodied carbon in our building products. One way to achieve this is to replace cement with suitable calcined minerals.

We are looking for developments in calcination technologies that offer improvements upon established methods. In particular it is desired for production efficiency and throughput to be optimised against a given fine grading output.

The novel technologies will have been proven and immediately applicable for commercial use.

What's in it for you?

A successful collaboration could mean for individuals or organizations forming a potential partnership to co-develop the technology and a scale up opportunity with various engagement models.

We are willing to collaborate with both individuals/freelancers, startups and other industry participants including universities. Solutions should be at demonstration/pilot stage of development.
