Summary

Background

Brickworks is Australia's largest brickmaker and concrete products manufacturer with operations both in Australia and United States. They are continuously looking for innovations to improve both processes and plant efficiencies while improving their environmental sustainability and reducing their carbon footprint.

Challenge

Brickworks are seeking proven solutions for manufacture of vacuum extruded concrete.

Brickworks is focused on improving their environmental sustainability and reducing their carbon footprint. Cement, the key ingredient used in concrete, however, is responsible for 8% of the world’s CO2 emissions. As such, it is highly desirable to us and our stakeholders to reduce cement use and therefore the total embodied carbon in our building products.

Concrete formed under vacuum results in increased compaction and density and therefore higher strengths can be achieved, thereby allowing for a reduction in cement content. The mix will need to based on Portland cement with the majority of materials non-combustible and mineral based (i.e. sand, fly ash, basalt, clays, etc.).

What's in it for you?

A successful collaboration could mean for individuals or organizations forming a potential partnership to co-develop the technology and a scale up opportunity with various engagement models.

We are willing to collaborate with both individuals/freelancers, start ups and other industry participants including universities. Solutions should be at demonstration/pilot stage of development.
