Remote Best Before Date and Product Reader

Coca-Cola HBC is looking for a reader and data transmitting system to be installed on market shelves or check out points/ cashiers. System will collect information about product and Best Before Date printed on the bottle and transmit data to a remote database on defined timings e.g weekly. That solution will enable us to have accurate information about age of the product available at selected markets and outlets.

Summary

Background

We are a growth-focused consumer packaged goods (CPG) business and strategic bottling partner of The Coca-Cola Company. We bottle and sell the beverages of The Coca-Cola Company exclusively in our 29 markets. We also partner with other beverage businesses such as Monster Energy, Edrington, Brown-Forman and Campari to sell their products. We create value for all our stakeholders by supporting the socio-economic development of the societies in which we operate and believe building a more positive environmental impact is integral to our future growth.

Challenge

Taste of our products is directly related to freshness. Targeting to offer best possible experience to each one of our consumers we need to ensure that product available at market outlets is not exceeding certain period depending on type of the product and packaging. That information is critical input to our production planning and quality indicators monitoring.

Currently, collection of information is manual, based on physical visits to market outlets and recording of actual product age for specific product categories.

We are looking for a remote reader/ transmitter with the following characteristics:

  • Capability to read/ recognize the product type based on information printed on packaging and/or label:
  1. Product type e.g Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola zero, Fanta etc
  2. Packaging type e.g 1.5L PET, CAN, etc 

(All above info can be retrieved based on production date and production line id printed on packaging. Printing is either laser or ink; minimum 8 digits)

  • Capability to read best before date printed on the packaging
  1. BBD is consisting of 6 digits DD/MM/YY
  2. Printing is either laser or ink

Key criteria also includes: 

  • Reading should be possible to be planned on specific frequency e.g weekly. 
  • Information to be sent to database or in form of email
  • Device should be possible to fit on market shelve, occupying small area or be incorporated to existing scanning devices used at cashiers of outlets
  • Resistance to hits/ damage
  • Possible to run on battery or chargeable
